More Florida

Yes, I am on this trip by myself, but I'm having a great time! I've always been ok being on my own for the most part. It occurred to me today that my head is always in it's own little world anyway, so I guess that's part of the reason why it doesn't bother me so much. And it's nice to be able to do what I'd like to do, when I'd like to do it without worrying about anyone else.

Saturday I went to a beach at Treasure Island, which is a little beach community with stores, restuarants, hotels, etc. It was pretty crowded and it took a little while to find somewhere to park, but I pretty much expected that. But it was of course nice and relaxing just sitting and walking on the beach. After that I went to The Pier which is downtown St. Petersburg, and I watched the sun set over the city.

Yesterday I went to another beach at Fort DeSoto park. It was crowded there too, but I found a spot with the softest sand I may have ever felt. It was a little late in the day when I went to the Treasure Island beach so I didn't get any sun, but I did at this beach. Then I stopped at the historic fort, came back to the hotel for a bit, then went to find somewhere to watch the sunset. I entered St. Pete beach into the GPS navigator, and it took me to another little beach community area where I happened to find a place called Sunset Park. I didn't quite get the view I wanted because there was a little peninsula right in front of the view of the horizon, but it was still pretty nice. Today I think I found a good place to go.

I noticed a restaurant with live music by where I parked, so after the sun went down I walked in that direction to check it out. Going to a restaurant by myself isn't something I've had the guts to do yet, so I just walked around it and headed back to my car. As I was walking I noticed something in the sky...

I figured it had to be some kind of space launch, but didn't know what. This morning I heard a DJ mention it, and I looked it up. It was the Discovery carrying a crew of 7 with the final piece of a solar power generator for the International Space Station. I can't believe I got to see that! Especially not knowing anything about it! I was just walking down the street and I just happened to be at the right place at the right time! That was about as long as the smoke trail got, and after that it was just a tiny white light in the sky.

I've got a lot of other really cool pictures I'll share soon. I just wanted to post this one because it's so amazing.

Today I went to the Sunshine Skyway bridge, and also found a little park on the way. One of the coolest things about going across the bridge was driving right along side the birds as they were flying. Then I went downtown again to the Baywalk shopping area, walked around and saw a movie. I've also been enjoying just driving around. There are still a couple more things I want to do in these last couple of days, but so far I've really enjoyed myself :D
